Earlier this year Golden Boy Promotions took the reigns to ESPN boxing cards and Thursday’s card really delivered. Golden Boy has been hosting cards in Indio, California at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino for years now and every event has been an awesome experience for fight fans. A hazy venue with local favorites and toe to toe action.
Toe to toe action would be a great way to describe Jason Quigley vs Glen Tapia. Quigley started the action early and look like he was going to run away with the contest. Jason Quigley also scored a knockdown in the third round. It seemed as Glen Tapia was not gonna make through the contest.
Tapia whom suffered back to back losses did not want to afford another “L” so he stepped up his game in the 4th round and beyond. Both men were exchanging hard punches throughout the match, but an early knockdown and late start by Tapia gave the advantage to Quigley.
Jason Quigley got the UD over Tapia. Quigley record is now 13-0, 10KOs. Glen Tapia suffers a third straight loss and is now 23-4, 15KOs.
The Co-Main featured local boxer Randy Caballero as he fought Jesus Ruiz in a bantamweight contest. Jesus Ruiz proved to be no easy win for Randy Caballero as this fight also featured back and forth action.
Randy Caballero got a decision victory over Ruiz. Caballero is now 24-0, 14KOs.
Kicking off the televised night of action was 2012 women’s Olympian Bronze Medalist Marlen Esparza. Esparza made her pro debut, but couldn’t put away her opponent Rachel Sazoff. The match went all 4 scheduled rounds granting Marlen her first professional win.
